ABSTRACT

Editing is a wonderful feature of all computer recording programs. The controller attaches to the computer through a MIDI connector, Ethernet connector, USB, FireWire, or Thunderbolt port. An alternative to a computer digital audio workstation (DAW) is a mobile-device recording system: an Apple iPad or Android tablet, multitrack recording app, and an audio interface. An audio interface connects to a mating connector on the outside of computer. Some high-end interfaces offer word clock connectors, which send and receive timing signals for digital audio. An audio driver is a program that allows recording software to transfer audio to and from an audio interface. Many control surfaces also act as audio interfaces: they include mic/line inputs and outputs (I/O) and MIDI connectors. Pro Tools Express software is a light version of Pro Tools included with an MBox audio interface. Pro Tools 11 is software that uses computer's CPU for all processing.
