ABSTRACT

This case study is mainly based on the Health care innovation in practice and Mayo Clinic in the 21st century: reinventing a healthcare icon. It focuses on the health care system in the USA: the most expensive system in the whole world. In Western countries health care faces enormous challenges. Demographic changes-the grey wave-transforms the face of the health care system, rising costs make strong demands on economies, the rise of individualism, neoliberal thought undermines the idea of solidarity, the medical-technological approach clashes with social and spiritual needs of patients. An uphill battle that convince governments to invest in prevention and to persuade citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles. It is widely recognised that radical changes are required to develop a sustainable health care system. Western society is shaped by innovations and will be shaped further by future innovations. Mayo Clinic 2020 report is based on the idea that new ways of health care delivery-both physical and virtual-have to be developed.
