ABSTRACT

In this chapter the relation between technology and religion takes central place. At first sight it seems as if religion no longer has a place in our technological culture. People have taken their fate into their own hands and no longer need supernatural powers. However, one could ask whether this supposition can be substantiated. For in spite of the expectation that religion would quietly die, it seems that religion is once more prevalent. What is more, there are indications that technological development itself is being motivated to a great extent by religious driving forces. Could one speak of a secular form of the sacred?
