ABSTRACT

The Learning Design Studio (LDS) at the Pennsylvania State University is a studio-based course that provides students with opportunities to develop learning technologies - digital artifacts that can support, or even transform, how, when, and where teaching and learning take place. The Learning Design Studio is different from other studio-based courses in many Educational Technology programs. For example, those with an Instructional Design orientation emphasize the development of instruction to produce specific learning outcomes. In a sense, such approaches are more the application of rules to produce outcomes rather than a design approach to produce an ultimate particular (Nelson and Stolterman 2012).
