Pen name of Sun Gui-zhen. Yi Lei was sent to the countryside to work on a farm upon graduating from middle school in 1969. Two years later she was a reporter for the Liberation Army as well as a staff member of the newspaper The Railway Corps. A talented, innovative poet, Yi Lei writes poetry that shows her modern sensibility as well as her daring experimentation.
