ABSTRACT

Born in Chongqing, Mei Shaojing graduated from middle school in Shaanxi Province and went into promotion work for a radio factory in the area of Yan'an. In 1975 her long narrative poem 'Lan Zhen Zi' was published; in 1981 she was transferred to work for the Federation of Literary and Art Circles. Her books of poems include Sound of Chinese Trumpets, She Is That Mei. Since the nineties Mei has also shifted to writing prose; she has published one book of prose, Platform of Moondew in 1993. I read that when sheep and cows came to men history was just in the midst of reading 'The Odes' The 'Odes' refers to the Shijing the first anthology of Chinese classical poetry. It seems history is always formed in hieroglyphicsevery season it elucidates the meaning of words. The 'Hymns' are a section of the 'Odes'. Days are garlic and wild scallions, still dropping loose dirt, still damp with water.
