ABSTRACT

The recession of 1990–91 began in July 1990 and ended in March 1991. It followed an expansion of ninety-two months, or approaching eight years, from November 1982 to July 1990, which ranks as the third longest expansion since the end of World War II. The longest expansion was 120 months, or ten years, from March 1991 to March 2001. The second longest expansion was 106 months, or close to nine years, from February 1961 to December 1969. The 1982–90 expansion came after the two back-to-back recessions of 1980 and 1981–82 (Chapters 8 and 9).
