ABSTRACT

Technology is double-edged. Computers provide historians with virtually endless amounts of information that they cannot control, but also with apps and search engines that enable them to access and research precisely what they want. Chat rooms and blogs enable them to communicate with each other. Historians using science can take a new look at old crimes and reexamine the evidence. Technology pits the national security of states against the transparency of hacking. It erodes privacy and uncovers evidence that may or may not be significant for understanding the actions of historical agents and actors.
