ABSTRACT
Japan is located in northeastern Asia between the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Japan. The area of Japan is 377,873 square kilometers, slightly smaller than the size of California; the country consists of four major islands and over 4,000 smaller islands (Japan National Tourism Organization 2011). The population is approximately 127 million with the majority (about 99 percent) being Japanese in terms of ethnicity (U.S. Department of State 2011).
