ABSTRACT

According to the data cited in Chapter 1, in 2006 there was enough money income to allow nearly $184,000 for every four-person household, which represents a fairly comfortable standard of living. Of course, every household did not receive $184,000 in money income. Most received less, and among those households receiving less, some received so little that they were considered poor. Among those households that received more, some were extraordinarily affluent, either as the result of containing a “superstar” earner or inheriting and/or accumulating great wealth.
