ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about a man called Pak Hun, who, moving to Pyongyang with his family. Hun and his mother were to take the mid-morning train from Sunan. The women from the village came to his house to bid farewell. Hun thought Ojaknyo would be among them. The night before she had said she would come to say goodbye in the morning. Her mother had come early, but Ojaknyo was nowhere to be seen. Samduk pressed a handful of tobacco into the wound on his shoulder and walked over to Hun. Hun looked up at the young man, Samduk, but he couldn't see a thing. A spark was burning within Samduk, saying, please; take my poor sister, Ojaknyo, with you. Hun took a deep breath and started running toward home. This is one of the stories written by the Korean writer of the 20th century, Hwang Sun-won. Hwang Sun-won is an artist of consummate delicacy and subtlety.
