ABSTRACT

Human rights in its original sense refer to the affirmation of the rights of humans. Although the theory of human rights was first raised by the bourgeoisie, the proposition in itself transcends the boundaries of class, nationality, race, and nation. Also, there had been great improvements of human rights since the founding of the new China, we unrealistically believed that there no longer existed any human rights problems, since the three great problems of imperialism, feudalism, and bureaucratic capitalism had been overcome. Since human rights were a slogan first raised by the bourgeoisie, we simply assumed without further analysis that it was a bourgeois slogan incompatible with proletarian revolutionary thinking. For historical reasons, human rights are a foreign concept to the Chinese people; we need a broad, deep, and long-term movement for enlightenment about human rights, so that the Chinese people can raise the banner of human rights together with the rest of humanity.
