ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the special and unique case formats and delivery systems, it pays to review what a case is. Instructors are concerned about the perception of learning value that derives from the transition from paper cases to digital cases. Textbooks use four basic kinds of cases: critical incidents, vignettes, case exercises, and end-of-section cases. A/B cases are multipart, complex cases that provide several decision or analysis points for students to address. The choose-your-own-action kind of case is based on the popular choose-your-own-adventure series in which children are encouraged to select an action from a range of actions. Students read text-based descriptions of scenarios supplemented with static graphs, financial statements, and the rare photograph. The core of the discussion about technology and cases relates to the challenges inherent in the creation of materials. There are three potential resource constraints one encounter when developing cases that incorporate technology to a significant degree: tools, technical support, and time.
