ABSTRACT

This chapter examines a new phase of citizen participation in the area of climate change. Then it illustrates the consideration of the body of work collectively referred to as Science and Technology Studies (STS) enlightens the analysis of the project by increasing our understanding of the complicated processes at work when citizens are involved in climate mitigation projects. The main focus of this chapter is on the roles of these green artefacts and the carbon accounting that the climate families went through. The overriding reason for analysing this project here is to illustrate the usefulness of STS approaches to the study of citizen participation in climate change management. Finally, the chapter highlights how STS approaches may enlighten our understanding of public participation in climate change mitigation management and explains the employing empirical insights from the Climate Family Project to enhance our understanding of what an STS informed approach to public participation in climate change might look like in practice.
