Talk That Works: Moving Toward Engaged Dialogue

In Chapter 4, we explored how crucial aspects of meaning, communication, and representation occur through multiple modes (e.g., color, image, printed words, etc.). Also, we foregrounded multimodality, but we acknowledged that talk (one of the modes that often dominates formal schooling) is important. In this chapter we take a closer look at talk and dialogue.
