ABSTRACT

No single scheme for teaching world history is unquestionably the best, and it is not my intention to put forward an inflexible model. Instead, my aim is to suggest some of the main themes that characterize global history in each of the major periods and then to highlight a few important topics, some of them possibly unfamiliar, that can help illuminate those themes. Obviously, teachers can adopt or adapt the structure and use the topics selectively in whatever way best suits their classroom needs and the organization of the textbook they are using.
