ABSTRACT

In teaching world history we are constantly relating local to global developments. We are also always aware of making any history course interesting and relevant to today's teenager. One technique to consider is a symposium of community members discussing a topic of concern for your students. Here are two ideas that worked well for my world history classes. The first was a religious symposium held early in the year after the students had studied the basic tenets and development of the major world religions. The second was a symposium on how globalization has been changing the careers that my students may be considering. The intent of this chapter is to share the process of developing a symposium and the results of the two mentioned.
