ABSTRACT
The AAU is one of the largest nonpro t sports organizations in the United States. Once the dominant or gani za tion in American amateur sports, the AAU’s authority was reduced signi cantly by the Amateur Sports Act of 1978. Since then, the AAU has focused on facilitating sports programs for participants of all ages, based on the philosophy of “Sports for All, Forever.” The AAU sponsors 34 sports programs for more than 500,000 participants, aided by some 50,000 volunteers.
