ABSTRACT

The preceding chapters have focused primarily on Social Security and Medicare, unemployment compensation, and workers’ compensation as the most important social insurance programs for providing economic security to workers and their families. However, certain economic security programs also exist, designed for certain groups, and they include both social insurance and government retirement and insurance programs. In this chapter, we examine major economic security programs designed specifically for certain groups, including veterans, railroad workers, federal civilian employees, and state and local government employees.
