ABSTRACT

This chapter examines racial nervousness as it relates to diversity goals in Master's of Public Administration (MPA) programs. Elements of the MPA program's diversity history can be placed on the program's website and in print materials. The MPA program director has the responsibility to ensure that the faculty member's research is evaluated by individuals who are qualified to offer an assessment of diversity-related scholarship. The Network of Schools of Public Policy, Affairs, and Administration (NASPAA) are the accrediting body for professional education in public service. Performing a cultural audit of the public administration program can offer an important assessment of the unit's core assumptions and current cultural state. NASPAA standards require programs to promote a climate of inclusiveness. There are many opportunities to promote the value of diversity and to foster inclusiveness outside of the classroom.
