ABSTRACT

King of Persia and founder of the Achaemenid dynasty that would rule the Persian Empire for more than 200 years. Cyrus the Great was both an outstanding administrator and a successful military leader. His reorganization of the Persian government greatly eased the challenges of ruling the large and diverse empire he built. By adopting a policy of tolerance toward the peoples and cultures he conquered, Cyrus laid the foundation for a prosperous and stable empire. Under the Achaemenid dynasty, Persia became the largest empire in the ancient world during its day.
