ABSTRACT

It'snonewsthatJapanhasfacedsomerougheconomictimesduringthe 1990s.However,thenotionthatJapan'stroublesgobacktwodecades andthat,unremedied,theywillcontinueformanymoreyearssurelygoes againstthegrainofwhatmostofus-includingthisauthor-havealways believed.Afterall,JapangrewfasterthanAmerica,Germanyorany otherindustrialcountryduringthe1980s.Itmusthavebeendoingsomethingright--{)rsoitwouldseem.Somewillevenarguethat,onceJapan getspastitspatchofbadgrowth,itwillresumeitssupposedtrajectoryto "owning"thetwenty-firstcentury.
