ABSTRACT

Innovation and the application of new ideas is generally the result ofintentional and costly effort. Most innovation emerges from researchand development departments of corporations, from government-funded projects, or from long years of experimentation by individuals and organizations. New knowledge and technology do not suddenly appear to us as miraculous revelations or in dreams. Virtually all breakthroughs in knowledge can be traced back to years of study and preparation. As Thomas Edison is said to have remarked, innovation is “10 percent inspiration and 90 percent perspiration.”
