Motivation in a Cross-National Context
Motivation refers to the inner urges that cause people to behave in certain ways. In the workplace, we talk of people being highly motivated when they work hard to accomplish objectives that are consistent with the organization’s goals. We talk of people being de-motivated on the job when they seem disinterested and need to be pushed to perform. What makes people motivated or de-motivated at work is complex because motivation is caused by a mix of psychological and personal characteristics.
