ABSTRACT

This chapter contain essays which are the samples of media literacy analysis by students at Webster University, St. Louis, Missouri. Monica Wallin conducted a media literacy analysis, applying the keys of process. In her case study, she has analyzed the Web site of the Colombian guerrilla organization Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC). The main objective of the Web site is to express the FARC's ideology and present a rationale for its violent actions. Next, Melissa Waugh conducted an analysis of the impact of media ownership on content through cross-promotion. The study examines prime-time shows airing during the week of February, investigating cross-promotion on Time Warner's television programming. While the network's prime-time programming presents an opportunity for promotion of Warner Brother's films, it is also an opportunity for antipromotion of competitors' works. Finally, Patsy Zettler conducted a comparative analysis of the Japanese film Ringu and its American remake, The Ring, focusing on how these films reveal cultural differences.
