ABSTRACT
Traditional Japanese aesthetic taste and preferences in art and architecture are a fusion of indigenous inclinations with influences from Korea and China. While there was such a thing as secular art and architecture, the continuous, subtle impact of Buddhism cannot be underestimated. With rare exceptions, some early, some late, Japanese art is usually characterized by a quality of sophisticated intimacy and naturalness that coheres with the environment in which it was created.
