ABSTRACT
Architectural forms consisted of stupas for relics of the Buddha, cave temples excavated from solid rock for Buddhist worship, which were also used by Hindus, at least one great temple carved from a cliff to simulate a freestanding structure, and two major stylesnorthern and southern-of freestanding temples. Temple architecture was at its best between the seventh and the twelfth centuries. Hindu temples are still in heavy use.
