ABSTRACT

There was no indication in the article or in an accompanying analysis by G.M. Bugniazet, IBEW secretary, of how these documents came to be in the possession of the IBEW. But Bugniazet focused on a lawsuit by fifteen members of Local 3 seeking reinstatement after they were thrown out of the Local by Broach and his supporters. He also lashed out at circulars issued by the "New Deal Group," which opposed Broach and his methods. (Almost equally vocal was another faction calling itself the "Rank and File.")

Bugniazet's documents were attacked as "phony" by the New Deal Group and other opponents in new barrages of circulars. Among other things, these pointed out that the IBEW leadership had failed to submit their findings to impartial investigation. They also noted that all the "letters"-ostensibly composed in different cities-appeared to have been written on the same

typewriter. They also indicated that no proof could be found of the existence of either the Bureau or the "Building Trades Committee." In addition, Broach, Bugniazet, and Hogan were sued for libel.
