ABSTRACT

We will present an overview and analysis of how RS can be conceptualized in a manner that will help explain how they operate in the lives of working people. Some commonalities and differences between religion and spirituality will be noted, and we will recommend that religion and spirituality be viewed primarily as different ways of searching for that which is sacred. This conceptualization will not only help us better understand how RS are similar to yet different from each other, but also should provide direction for future systematic research on RS in the workplace. Finally, in light of our discussion about how each construct should be conceptualized, we will consider the role of RS belief and practice in the workplace.
