ABSTRACT
Zhang Shanglin journeyed to Guangxi to secure potential brides and while there took one of these women as his second wife. The following year on 8 June 1811 she gave birth to Zhang Fuxing.3 Here in the Nandan district of Guangxi, Zhang Fuxing was able to attend school a few months a year when he was not assisting his father in trade; he married a Guangxi woman named Huang Weishi in 1838.
