ABSTRACT

Last year, I sent you a portrait of our church elder, Lai Xinglian, drawn by me. At that time, I promised to share with you ... an autobiography written by Lai himself. Now that I have fmally gotten around to this task, I have discovered that the work is, in many instances, so extensive that I have often resorted to abridgement. In the course of the condensation, I have tried to retain Lai's own rendition, for despite its naivete, I find it so intrinsically interesting that I have tried to preserve it in its original form as much as possible.
