ABSTRACT

Three Streams of Thought Chinese culture was influenced by three main schools of thought, Confucianism, Daoism, and Buddhism. Often people would lean towards one school at different times in their lives. Confucianism believed man's nature was naturally good, and stressed harmony in families and, by extension, across society. Daoism regarded harmony with nature as the ultimate good and sought freedom from convention. Buddhism was a religion from India and taught that people would be reincarnated (born again) in future lives and that by doing good deeds in this life they could hope for a better next life .
