ABSTRACT

The Global Positioning System, orGPS, is a network of satellites thatenables anyone on Earth’s surface, or flying above it, to find out exactly where they are. The system belongs to the United States, but it is not the only satellite positioning system. Russia has developed a similar system, called the Global Navigation Satellite System

(GLONASS). A group of nations in Europe and elsewhere in the world is developing a satellite positioning system named Galileo.
