ABSTRACT

The quest for evidence-based public management (EBMgt) faces a variety of challenges, including issues regarding the validity, reliability, interpretation, and application of studies providing evidence of the consequences of management practices. Despite those challenges, we can expect that EBMgt will continue to grow in importance in the years to come, as policy makers and managers pursue cost-effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes in public programs. Indeed, the appeal of evidence-based practice can be found as much in the terminology as in any demonstrated results. Who, for example, would want to say that their practices are not based on evidence?
