ABSTRACT

SPIRITUALISTS Spiritualism is a form of Christianity that emerged in the United States during the midnineteenth century based on the belief that the spirits of the dead live on and are available to communicate with the living through mediums, or intermediaries. Spiritualism shares with Christianity a belief in the fatherhood of God, an afterlife similar to heaven, and the practices of holding Sunday services and singing hymns. Spiritualists hold that God is a divine energy (Infinite

Intelligence) present in everything that exists. In their view, humans are a representation of God’s creation, God is within them, and they seek teachings regarding compassion and love.
