ABSTRACT

This chapter undertakes an assessment of emerging IT infrastructures and their deployment status in four countries in the Asia Pacific region: China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. In this region, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea are leading both in terms of adoption of IT infrastructures and e-government maturity. The chapter examines the overall strategy that was charted out by each of the countries in deploying next-generation IT infrastructures. It also provides a brief overview of the IT strategy of each of the countries-China, Japan, Singapore, and South Korea. The chapter describes the emerging wireless and wired technologies employed in such networks and their deployment status in these four countries. The main objective of this chapter has been to provide a glimpse into the emerging IT infrastructures that may be employed for future e-government applications. Hence, the chapter attempts to achieve this objective by investigating four countries in the Asia Pacific region that have been innovative and proactive in IT deployment.
