ABSTRACT

A final chapter in a book like this one ideally provides some summary reflections, caveats, cautionary remarks, and comments on the field. This book has outlined what I believe to be the major traditions influencing much of qualitative research on work and organizations in contemporary society. This is not meant to indicate, however, that the book is a completely comprehensive treatment of the field. Entire scholarly traditions have been excluded (e.g., action research, cultural studies, and queer theory), and some traditions have only received partial treatment (e.g., institutional theory) under the rubric of structuration and praxeology. Obvious limitations of time, space, and personal expertise have restricted the scope of the book in many ways.
