ABSTRACT
In the early 1980s, the U.S. Army started using collaborative tools such as GroupSystems. This paper traces the use and development of GroupSystems across more than a twenty year period. Looking at early successes and failures, lessons are drawn on how to apply collaborative tools in an organization. The role of GroupSystems in preparing for Year 2000 Problem or Y2K and the development of the army for the war on terrorism (Afghanistan and Iraq) is also examined.
