ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a broad understanding of the operational, technical, and economic issues surrounding collaboration with mobile computing. First, a state-of-the-art review of the mobile computing architecture is presented, followed by a discussion emphasizing the value that mobile computing can deliver today. The obstacles that must overcome to bring the potential of mobile computing to its fruition are then outlined. Finally, the chapter looks into prevailing ideas of how mobile coloration will evolve, as well as trends that will likely have significant impacts on the future of anytime/anyplace computing. Mobile computing via cellular networks has also been hampered by the competing transmission protocols. Security in personal area network (PANs) is relatively weak compared to secure wireless means, such as wireless local area networks and cellular networks. Wireless communications networks can be broadly classified as personal area networks, cellular networks, wireless local area networks, and satellite networks.
