ABSTRACT

Wieger's opinion was that, since there is a label having the title of the first edition and all the prefaces of the first edition, it is a very rare edition. In reality, except for the label the book is exactly the same as lap-Sin I, 44 and 45, all Yen-i t'ang editions and all of them contain the original prefaces. We do not agree with Wieger in calling the book a second edition. The Chinese characters ch 'ung-k'o m~U means only re-engraving of the wooden blocks, which can indicate a second edition but not necessarily. It would be misleading to call the book a very rare edition, merely because it has a label bearing the original title!
