ABSTRACT

The Ssu-k 'u I'i-yao states that this book, the Hsing-li piao-I'i hui-yao t1lJ.~~~~ is the same as the Hsing-li Is'ung-yao t1lJ.~~ (compiled by Chan Huai and revised by Ch'en Jen-hsi), which was quite frequently seen in the book market. The booksellers had the title changed in order to have a quick sale. The book was written to help students who were preparing for the government examinations and it was of no help to scholarship (SKTY 3:1995). Cf. The Naikaku Bunko (NBC, p. 175) owns an edition of the Hsing-li Is 'ung-yao (twenty-two chiian, twelve Is 'e) with a preface of 1632 (Ch'ung-chen 5) and a Ming edition of the Hsing-li piao-I 'i hui-yao or Hsing-li hui-yao (twenty-two chiian, twenty-three Is 'e).
