ABSTRACT

Pfister (p. 609, no. 3) takes Xavier-Ehrenbert Fridelli (1673-1743) as the author of this book, as did also Sommervogel (vol. III, col. 994, no. 4). The latter, however, in vol. VII (col. 1656, no. 2) attributes the authorship to Kilian Stumpf (1655-1720). From the very beginning when the book was first published its author's name was never clearly revealed. Thus, in 1718 (24 September) the censure of the Bishop of Peking against this book reads: " ... dictum librum 'Informatio' tamquam libellum famosum declaramus, et damnamus auctorem seu auctores ... " (cf. Jap-Sin 178, f. 179rv).
