ABSTRACT
ASCIENTIST WHO WAS PART of the team that developed the atom bomb dined with Bette and me during the Waldorf Conference. He was at the conference but was keeping a very low profile, and since he still lectures occasionally in his position as professor emeritus at an important university, I cannot name him even at this late date. The stink of those years has almost washed away, but not entirely.
