ABSTRACT

On November 8, 1966, people whose television sets were tuned to NBC launched themselves into outer space along with Captain Kirk, Mr. Spack, Lieutenant Uhura, Bones (the doctor), and all the rest of the crew of the starship Enterprise, "its five-year mission ... to boldly go where no man has gone before." Enter angelic voices "ooh-oohing" at the stars. Cut to the flash of light from the twin propulsion systems of the USS Enterprise as it winks out of sight, bound for a beautiful future somewhere far, far away. Star Trek was written by Gene Roddenberry, but it was created by the 1960s.
