ABSTRACT
The stories in this section represent some of the earliest narrative memoriesof their tellers. Here, twelve voices vividly relate the oral entertainments with which their grandparents and parents captured their imaginations. When their voices were recorded by folklorists, all but two of the storytellers were themselves passing these tales on to children and grandchildren.
