ABSTRACT

The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, describes the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) as follows: Creation of the CFPB ranks among the most contentious provisions of the vast Dodd-Frank financial regulation statute. According to Washington State government sources, the regulations would have cost $3.4 million through 2019. Ninety-one percent agree that the federal government should set safety standards for all children's products. A recent telephone survey by Consumers Union found strong and general support for Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC's) role in protecting the public from unsafe consumer products. According to Consumers Union, annually 34,500 people die and 34 million suffer injuries from consumer products under federal safety jurisdiction. Carmakers install low rolling resistance tires on new vehicles because they have to meet federal automobile fuel economy standards. This chapter deals with a particular type of product information, which describes key attributes of tires.
