ABSTRACT

P.S. I wonder if you could not properly, in your Lincoln Birthday address, congratulate the country and the South upon the fact that now for two months there has not been a single lynching in any part of the country. This, I think you will find has not been true for any two months since the year 1885. This will be all the more powerful since so many have tried to produce the impression that your administration had resulted in creating more lynchings in the South than had ever occurred before. If you decide to take this matter up, it might be safe for you to get the latest and most direct information from the Chicago Tribune which is an authority on the subject.
