ABSTRACT
79Naka was the greyhound that was given to me years ago by my friend, Mr. Tanizaki of Okamoto. He was also the rather handsome dog in the novel Some Prefer Nettles, and he appeared in the illustrations of my friend, the late Mr. Narashiga Koide. Naka grew old and sick. I had been thinking he would not be with us for much longer, and then I was awoken one morning by the alarmed voices of my wife and children. Their voices came from in front of my bedroom, and I knew right then and there that Naka was dead.
