ABSTRACT

In recent years an increasing number of studies have examined archaeological evidence for disease and injury through human remains from burials and samples taken from latrines (Photo 10.1). In addition, a number of studies have examined the form and activities of Frankish hospitals and the types of medical treatments and medicines employed by doctors in the hospitals and infirmaries of the Latin East as recorded in written sources and archaeological finds.
