ABSTRACT

We have argued throughout this book that the ecological crisis, unfolding globally and at all scales, is the ultimate context of alternative environmental management. This is not to say that other goals are unimportant – net zero, reducing footprint, social responsibility, etc. are all appropriate goals for EM. But it is important to be mindful of a bigger and more global picture. EM efforts and initiatives at all scales are necessary, but, in a context of climate change and other global ecological issues, the success of EM will ultimately be measured in terms of its ability to address the broader ecological crisis.
